प्रस्तावना :
सर्वांगीण विकास' हे शिक्षणाचे मुख्य सूत्र आहे आणि 'भाषा शिक्षण' या शिक्षण प्रणालीचा आधारभूत कणा आहे, कारण जीवन आणि भाषा यांचा असलेला अतूट संबंध नाकारता येत नाही. शाश्वत जीवन मूल्ये आणि सांस्कृतिक, सामाजिक, व्यावसायिक, अशा वेगवेगळ्या क्षेत्रातील विविध मूल्ये व कौशल्ये रुजवणे केवळ भाषेमुळेच शक्य होते.
मराठी वा अन्य माध्यमातील विद्यार्थी निम्न माध्यमिक स्तर म्हणजे इयत्ता १० वीपर्यंत शिक्षण पूर्ण करतात तेव्हा मराठी वाचणे, ऐकणे, लिहणे, समजून घेणे, आपले मत / विचार व्यक्त करणे अशा सामान्य क्षमता मिळवतो. उच्च माध्यमिक स्तरावर [ ११ वी, १२ वी] या क्षमतांचाही स्तर उंचावणे अपेक्षित आहे. या टप्प्यावर विद्यार्थी 'उदर निर्वाहाची साधन-निश्चिती व त्यासाठी पुढील उच्च शिक्षणाची तयारी' यासाठी स्वतःला तयार करत असतो.
यानुसार या पाठ्यक्रमातून मराठी साहित्यातील कथा, कविता, लेख यासोबतच व्यक्तिचित्र, विनोदी साहित्य, नाटक, प्रस्तावना लेखन अशा साहित्य प्रकारांची ओळख होऊन मराठी भाषेची, मराठी साहित्याची जाण समृद्ध होईल. शाश्वत नैतिक मूल्यांची जाणीव सखोल होईल, सुजाण नागरिकत्व, पर्यावरण मैत्री अशा मूल्यांचीही जाण विकसित होईल. 'व्यक्त करणे / अभिव्यक्त होणे' ही या काळच्या नव्या पिढीची आवड आणि गरज आहे. यासाठी वेगवेगळी भाषिक कौशल्ये रुजवली जातील. मागील वारशाची ओळख आणि विज्ञान, नवे तंत्रज्ञान याची सांगड घातली जाऊन व्यवहारात व नव्या युगातील व्यावसायिक, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक अशा विविध क्षेत्रात भाषेचा सुयोग्य उपयोग करता यावा यासाठी भाषिक क्षमता विकसित होतील आणि विद्यार्थी नव्या युगाची आव्हाने पेलण्यास सक्षम होईल.

> दृक् व श्राव्य माध्यमातून मिळणाऱ्या सूचना, जाहिराती, निवेदने, बातम्या, चर्चा, परिसंवाद इत्यादीतील विचार / कल्पना समजणे.
> नाटक, काव्य अशा साहित्याचे अभिवचन करता येणे.
> विविध साहित्य प्रकारांचा आस्वाद घेणे.
> वाचनातून समीक्षणात्मक दृष्टीकोन निर्माण होणे व तो जोपासला जाणे.
> एखाद्या विषयाला अनुसरून स्वतःचे विचार, मत सुसूत्रपणे, संदर्भासह मांडता येणे. व्यक्त होता येणे.
> जनसंचार माध्यमांसाठी आवश्यक अशी भाषिक कौशल्ये आत्मसात करून उपयोग करता येणे. जसे : कार्यक्रमाचे सूत्रसंचालन, रेडीओ निवेदन इ.
> नव्या युगातील नव्या माध्यामतून प्रिंट व इलेक्ट्रानिक माध्यम - मराठी भाषेचा स्योग्य वापर करता येणे.
> अनुभव, निरीक्षण आणि त्यावरील आपले विचार, लिखित रुपात व्यक्त करणे.
> अनुवाद कौशल्य मिळवणे.
> भाषेचा व्याकरण व लेखन नियमानुसार अचूक वापर करता येणे.
> भाषा सौंदर्याची जाण विकसित होऊन लालित्यपूर्ण सुंदर भाषेचा उपयोग करता येणे.

अभ्यासक्रमाबाबत महत्त्वाचे :
- प्रश्नपत्रिकेचे स्वरूप 80 गुण लेखी +20 गुण अंतर्गत मूल्यमापन असे आहे.
- तासिकांची संख्या ही कमी केली गेली आहे. त्यामुळे पाठ्यपुस्तकातील काही घटक / पाठ वगळण्यात आले आहेत.
- तथापि विद्यार्थ्यांनी ते पाठ जरूर वाचावेत.
