उत्तर जंगल तरह-तरह के बहुत सारे पेड़ों से अच्छादित बहुत बड़े क्षेत्रफल वाली जगह होती है। जंगल बहुत सारे जानवरों, कीड़े-मकोड़े आदि का प्राकृतिक घर है।

कहीं बहुत सारे पेड़ उगाए गए हों तो क्या वह जंगल बन जाता है?

उत्तर नहीं, वह जंगल नहीं बन जाता है। जंगल बहुत ही घने तथा बहुत बड़े क्षेत्रफल में तरह-तरह के छोटे बड़े पेड़ों एवं पौधों से बना हुआ इलाका होता है। जंगल बहुत सारे जानवरों का प्राकृतिक घर होता है।

उत्तर जंगल में पेड़ों के अलावा कई तरह के जानवर, कीड़े-मकोड़े, पक्षी आदि होते हैं।

क्या सभी जंगलों में एक ही तरह के पेड़ होते हैं? तुम कितने पेड़ पहचान लेते हो?

उत्तर अलग-अलग जंगलों में अलग-अलग तरह के पेड़ हो सकते हैं। मैं पीपल, आम, बबूल, बरगद, आदि पेड़ों को पहचान सकता हूँ।

सूर्यमणि कहती हैं अगर जंगल नहीं बचेंगे तो हम भी नहीं बचेंगे। ऐसा क्यों?

उत्तर जंगल हमारे लिए जरूरी है। जंगल पर्यावरण में संतुलन बनाये रखने में हमारी मदद करते हैं। यह कई हानिकारक गैसों को सोख लेता है तथा ऑक्सीजन छोड़ता है। जंगल हमें लकड़ी, जड़ी-बूटी तथा अन्य कई तरह के कच्चे माल देता है। इसलिये, सूर्यमणि का कथन सही है।

उत्तर हाँ, मैं और मेरे एक दोस्त को जंगल से बहुत लगाव है।

उत्तर ठेकेदार जंगल से पेड़ एवं लकड़ियाँ काटकर बेचता था। वह नहीं चाहता था कि दूसरे लोग भी जंगल के संसाधन का उपयोग करें। इसलिये ठेकेदार सूर्यमणि के गाँव वालों को जंगल में जाने से रोका।

क्या तुम्हारे आस-पास कोई ऐसी जगह है, जो तुम सोचते हो सभी के लिए होनी चाहिए पर वहाँ जाने से लोगों को रोका जाता है?

उत्तर हाँ, मेरे शहर में एक बहुत बड़ी झील है। सुरक्षा कारणों से वहाँ आम लोगों को जाने से रोका जाता है। मैं समझता हूँ वह आम लोगों के लिए खुला होना चाहिए।

  • कई लोग जंगल से इतनी दूर हो गए हैं कि अक्सर आदिवासियों की जिंदगी नहीं समझते। कुछ तो उन्हें जंगली भी कह देते हैं। ऐसा कहना क्यों सही नहीं है?

उत्तर ‘जंगली’ एक अपमानजनक संबोधन है। प्रायः असभ्य लोगों को ‘जंगली’ से संबोधित किया जाता है। आदिवासियों की संस्कृति आम लोगों से बिल्कुल अलग तरह की होती है। दरअसल आदिवासी लोग असभ्य नहीं हैं बल्कि उनके रहन-सहन, खान-पान के तरीके हमलोगों से बिल्कुल अलग तरह के हैं। इसलिये उन्हें ‘जंगली‘ कहना गलत है। आदिवासी कैसे रहते हैं इस बारे में तुम क्या जानते हो? लिखो और चित्र बनाओ।

उत्तर आदिवासी बिल्कुल सरल तरीके से रहते हैं। वे बिल्कुल ही सरल कपड़े पहनते हैं। वे लोग त्योहारों के दौरान पत्तों तथा फूलों से बने हुये वस्त्र पहनते हैं। वे जीविकोपार्जन के लिए जंगल पर निर्भर होते हैं। वे जंगल से लकड़ियाँ, पत्ते, गोंद, शहद आदि इकट्ठा कर उन्हें बेचकर अपना जीविकोपार्जन करते हैं। वे लोग पत्तों, लकड़ियों, बासों आदि से कई उपयोगी चीजें बनाते हैं। उन्हें जड़ी-बूटी का बहुत अच्छा ज्ञान होता है।

क्या तुम्हारा कोई आदिवासी दोस्त है? उससे जंगल के बारे में तुमने क्या-क्या सीखा?

उत्तर हाँ, मेरा एक दोस्त आदिवासी है। वह मेरे क्लास में पढ़ता है। मैंने उससे बहुत सारे पेड़ों तथा पौघों को पहचानना सीखा है, जिनसे मैं बिल्कुल ही अनिभज्ञ था। मैंने उससे पत्तों से खाद बनाना सीखा। मैंने उससे बाँस तथा पत्तों से कई उपयोगी वस्तुएँ बनाना सीखा है।

उत्तर हाँ, मैंने जंगल के कटने से मौसम पर क्या असर पड़ा है से संबंधित कई खबरें अखबार से इकड़ी की है। मैनें उनमें पढ़ा है कि जंगल के ज्यादा कटाई के कारण वृष्टि औसत से भी कम हो गई है। जिसके कारण ज्यादा गर्मी पड़ रही है तथा सूखे का प्रकोप बढ़ता जा रहा है।

  • तोरांग में सूर्यमणि अपने आदिवासी रहन-सहन, नृत्य-संगीत को जिंदा रखने के लिए बहुत कुछ करती हैं। क्या तुम अपने समुदाय के लिए ऐसा कुछ करना चाहोगे? तुम किस चीज को बचाए रखना चाहोगे?

उत्तर हाँ, मैं अपने समुदाय की संस्कृति बचाये रखने के लिए कुछ करना चाहता हूँ। मैं चाहता हूँ कि परंपरागत पेंटिंग के तरीके जीवित रहें।
