1. निम्नलिखित गद्यांश को ध्यानपूर्वक पढ़कर उस पर आधारित प्रश्नों के उत्तर लिखिए:
कई बार मन्ष्य अपने अन्चित कार्यों या अवांछनीय स्वभाव के संबंध में दुखी होता है और सोचता है कि उन्हें वह छोड़ दे। उन कृत्यों की प्रतिक्रिया उसने देखी-सुनी होती है। उसे परामर्श और उपदेश भी उसी प्रकार के मिलते रहते हैं, जिनमें सुधार करने की अपेक्षा रहती है। सुनने में यद्यपि वे सारगर्भित परामर्श होते हैं, किंतु जब छोड़ने की बात आती है तो मन मुकर जाता है। अभ्यस्त प्रकृति को छोड़ने के लिए मन सहमत नहीं होता। आर्थिक तंगी, बदनामी, स्वास्थ्य की क्षति, मनोमालिन्य, आदि अनुभवों के कारण बार-बार सुधरने की बात सोचने और समय आने पर उसे न कर पाने से मनोबल टूटता है। बार-बार मनोबल टूटने पर व्यक्ति इतना दुर्बल हो जाता है कि उसे यह विश्वास ही नहीं होता कि उनका सुधार हो सकता है और यह कल्पना करने लगते हैं कि जीवन ऐसे ही बीत जाएगा और दुर्व्यसनों से किसी भी प्रकार मुक्ति नहीं मिल सकेगी। 10 यह सर्वविदित बात है कि मनुष्य अपने मन का स्वामी है, शरीर पर भी उसका अधिकार है। सामान्य जीवन में वह अपनी अभिरुचि के अनुसार ही सोचकर कार्य करता है। किंतु दुष्प्रवृत्तियों के संबंध में ही ऐसी क्या बात है कि वे चाहकर भी नहीं छूट पातीं और प्रयास करने के बावजूद भी सिर पर ही सवार रहती हैं।
अंधविश्वास, दिखावा, खर्चीली शादियाँ, क्प्रथाएँ, तर्कहीन रीति-रिवाजों जैसी अनेक क्रीतियाँ ऐसी हैं, जिन्हें बुद्धि-विवेक और तर्क के आधार पर हर कोई नकारता है, किंतु जब करने का समय आता है तो सभी पुराने अभ्यस्त चिंतन पर चल पड़ते हैं और वही करने लग जाते हैं जिसे न करने की बात अनेक बार सोचते रहते हैं।
