UP Board Class 12 English Syllabus 2026-27

Academic Session-2026-27 Subject- English (Class-XII)

There will be one question paper of 100 marks.

Unit-1- Reading 15marks.

1. One long unseen passage followed by four very short answer type questions and three vocabulary based questions.

Unit-2- writing 20 marks

1. Article (Descriptive, Argumentative/ Autobiographical) in about 150 words 10

1. Letter to the Editor/Complaint letters/Business letters (Placing orders / Booking or

cancellation / making enquiries etc) 10

Unit-3- Grammar 25 marks.

1. Ten MCQs and five very short answer type questions based on Narration, Synthesis,

Transformation, Syntax, Idioms and Phrases/phrasal Verbs, Synonyms, Antonyms, One word substitution, Homophones <math>MCQ-1x10=10</math>

<math>VSA-2x5=10</math>

1. Translation from Hindi to English-7 to 8 Sentences 5

Unit-4- Literature 40 marks

Flamingo- Text book Prose

1. Two short answer type questions <math>4+4=8</math>
2. One long answer type question 7 Poetry
3. Three very short answer type questions based on the given poetry extract- <math>3x2=6</math>

Note- (Questions related to identification of the following figures of speech will be included in the poetry section-Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Oxymoron, Apostrophe, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia).

1. Central idea of the given poem 4 <u>Vistas- Supplementary Reader</u>
2. Two short answer type questions. 4+4=8
3. One long answer type question 7

Four Unit Tests

1. First Unit Test (MCQs Based) 20 Marks July Second Week (10 Marks for summer holiday home work + 10 Marks for unit test)
2. Second Unit Test (Descriptive Questions Based) 20 Marks August Last Week
3. Third Unit Test (MCQs Based) 20 Marks November Last Week
4. Fourth Unit Test (Descriptive Questions Based) 20 Marks December Last Week

Note- The above tests will be conducted at school level as a part of remedial teaching. The marks obtained in these tests will not be included in the final result.
