जब से मुझे याद है, मैं देख रहा हूँ, यह नीम का पेड़ इसी तरह खड़ा है। मोटा तथा खुरदरा तना, दो मोटी जड़ें जमीन से ऊपर उठकर नीचे गहरी चली गईं हैं । ये जड़ें हम सभी की क्रिंयाँ हैं। हम चारों इन पर बैठकर गप्पें लड़ाते हैं। नीम का पेड़ घर के बुजुर्ग की तरह देखभाल करता है। पेड़ दादा कभी-कभी हमारी भोली बातों पर हँसकर मीठी- पकी निबोरियाँ हमें देते हैं। कभी-कभी छोटी- छोटी टहनियों से हमें डाँटते हुए कहते हैं - बैठे रहोगे, पढ़ोगे नहीं ? गर्मियों में अपनी घनी पत्तियों से हमारे ऊपर छाया करते हैं । दूर तक फैली हुई zशाखाओं और टहनियों का छाता ताने दिन-रात खड़े रहते हैं। सुबह- सुबह पक्षियों की चहचहाहट से हमें जगाते हैं। जाड़ों में पेड़ दादा जब हमें अपनी छाया से दूर धूप में खेलता देखते हैं तो दुखी हो जाते हैं कि मेरे प्यारे बच्चे मेरे पास नहीं खेल रहे हैं। वे हवा के साथ अपनी पत्तियाँ हमारे पास भेज देते हैं कि जाओ मेरे बच्चों के साथ खेलो । कितने अच्छे हैं पेड़ दादा ।
